A ruthless massacre of lungs of Mumbai took place, but who cared? And the one who cared, were put behind bars! On that day, people were in obfuscation that are they really living in a democratic country or is it just written on the slate of constitution, which can be erased according to the greed of authorities. What happened in Mumbai was such a massacre of trees that no afforestation practice can counterbalance or even plummet the loss occurred. But who cares? Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and Loni Dehat has already crossed 300 Air Quality Index mark. But who cares?
Imagine the day of Diwali, after you are done bursting n number of crackers on that night and you wake up next day for a morning walk. You see chippings of crackers, scattered all over the roads. While walking, you will be inhaling impure air. Further you will observe people having throat problems and some face difficulty in breathing as well. Now just think for a minute, who is going to clean the mess which emerged due to mere joy bursting crackers? Obviously, municipal workers, after all they are paid for it. Second question, is it worth bursting so many crackers when you are ultimately getting noxious air to inhale? Of course, it is worth bursting as it is our tradition and no compromise with it, I will wear mask for one day, what’s the problem right? Third question, do you think that somewhere you are a culprit for making others health miserable? No, not at all, I bought less crackers as compared to that of people in my locality. Last question, are crackers not causing harm to nature? Excuse me! I am neophile, that’s why I bought green firecrackers. The reason to why do we clean our homes before Diwali pooja is that goddess Laxmi may come to our home at any time, even at midnight and she comes to bless those whose house is clean, else she just walks away. My question to people who will answer in the same way is- "Do you think goddess Laxmi is going to come to your home, where air is impure and there is a mess of crackers? Will she be happy noticing such environment?" Apart from this, Supreme court has not articulated the details of procedure of manufacturing green firecrackers, so the manufacturers are still confused regarding the same.
Meanwhile, Diwali is also a festival for animals and birds, as mythological fables contains many characters of species of animals and birds like Garun, Jatayu and Samtpati (one of the species of birds), Jamwant (dear) and many more. These birds and animals are believed to be faithful, when Sita got abducted by Ravan, Jatayu was the one who fought boldly with Ravan and got defeated by him. In the jaws of death, he told Ram that what was happened to him and where the Ravan has gone with Sita. Likewise, many told and untold narratives of sung and unsung heroes had a crucial part in Ramayana. One cannot violate animals and birds right to enjoy Diwali by bursting crackers. Lord Ram used to adore animals and birds, and now they are simply dying out of fear and shock occurred by cacophony voice and pollution of firecrackers.
India is marching towards development, and with the increasing standards of infrastructure, one must sound more civilised. On the contrary to this, the level of wisdom is observed to be falling as we are turning inhuman to nature and wildlife. Here I conclude by saying, “We Do Not Inherit the Earth from Our Ancestors; We Borrow It from Our Children”, so we must ensure that we will be transferring the same earth it was decades ago to our next generation.
